Who do I have to snuggle to get to watch the AMAs on TV next year? What is this
Access TV bizness anyway? I listened on Outlaw Country, though, and I gotta say….
FABULOUS! As far as awards shows go, the AMAs have got it goin’ on.
Bonnie Raitt looked classy and beautiful. Guy Clark looked a little older and a little
sadder, but he and Verlon thrilled and silenced the crowd with “My Favorite Picture of
You”, written by Guy for his wife and true love, Susanna, who died early this summer.
Seek it out. It just doesn’t get any truer.
Patterson Hood kicked things off this year and bowed to Booker T (and the Green Onions
opening was cool). He gave a brief history of Muscle Shoals days. Brief. Patterson. I
know, huh?
Hayes Carll,,,, I ain’t NEVER met another like you.
Don Was was around and John Anderson, Peter Cooper, John Hiatt and who knows who
else because I was watching on the RADIO.
It was good to hear Bonnie and Hiatt do “Nick of Time”. Richard Thompson sounded
better than ever with a great 1952 Vincent Black Lightning. Time warp! In a good way!
You can check the “who won what” stuff on your innertube, but I was so impressed with
Americana music and proud to be a fan. It was the perfect explanation for the age old
question ‘what IS Americana music?’
The highlight of the night, for me, was Jason Isbell, of course. “Alabama Pines” won
Song of the Year, deservedly. He entertained the crowd with a heartfelt version. I was
rapt.
